It’s a great time to be a Canadian opera singer, especially in Paris. It’s no secret that Parisians appreciate Canadian voices; just this season, they have had the pleasure of hearing Julie Boulianne singing her first Donna Elvira to great acclaim at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Karina Gauvin and Marie-Nicole Lemieux have just taken the city by storm in Handel’s Rodelinda and Étienne Dupuis just finished a run of Iphigénie en Tauride in the role of Oreste with the Paris Opera. Marie-Nicole Lemieux will also sing her very first Carmen next week at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

Last night, a new production of Così fan tutte opens at the famous Palais Garnier with three Canadians among the cast: Michèle Losier as Dorabella, Frédéric Antoun as Ferrando and Philippe Sly as Guglielmo. The Opéra national de Paris has just released its 2017-2018 season and you can count in 9 Canadians singing in more than half of their 20 main stage productions, 2 of which will be new productions (shown with an asterisk). Here are the Canadian singers taking part in l’Opéra national de Paris’ 2017-2018 season:

Paris accueille les chanteurs canadiens à bras ouverts. Comme on peut en témoigner depuis le début de la saison 2016-2017, le public parisien semble beaucoup apprécier les talents de chez nous. C’est au Théâtre des Champs-Élysées que Julie Boulianne a chanté, en décembre dernier, sa première Donna Elvira dans Don Giovanni. Étienne Dupuis terminait, il y a quelques semaines, une série de représentations d’Iphigénie en Tauride à l’Opéra Garnier et Karina Gauvin triomphait cette semaine, aux côtés de Marie-Nicole Lemieux, dans la Rodelinda de Handel. Marie-Nicole Lemieux donnera, la semaine prochaine, sa première Carmen au fameux Théâtre de l’avenue Montaigne.

Hier soir, les Québécois étaient à l’honneur à l’Opéra Garnier dans une toute nouvelle production de Così fan tutte: Michèle Losier chantera Dorabella, Frédéric Antoun chantera Ferrando et Philippe Sly, Guglielmo.
