Andrew Shore
Andrew Shore is acknowledged as one of the most outstanding singer/actors currently working on the lyric stage. He has performed with all the major opera houses in the UK. Internationally, he has performed with the Metropolitan Opera New York, La Scala Milan, Paris Opera, San Diego Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona, Lyon, Nantes, Montpelier, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Vancouver, Ottawa and Santa Fe Opera. Roles have included the title roles of Falstaff, Wozzeck, King Priam, Gianni Schicchi, Le nozze di Figaro and Don Pasquale, Papageno/Die Zauberflöte, Dr Bartolo/Il barbiere di Siviglia, Dulcamara/L’Elisir d’Amore, Dikoj/Katya Kabanova, Don Alfonso/Cosi fan tutte, Dr Kolonaty/The Makropoulos Case, Quince and Bottom/A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Alberich/Der Ring des Nibelungen (in a new production in Bayreuth), Frank (Die Fledermaus), Faber/The Knot Garden, and the world première of Appomattox by Philip Glass.
Recent engagements include Alberich in Der Ring des Nibelungen at Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, Kolenaty/Makropoulos Case, Dulcamara/ L’elisir d’amore, Faninal / Der Rosenkavalier, Doctor Bartolo/Barber of Seville, Martinu’s Julietta and the title role in Jakob Lenz for English National Opera; Pooh-Bah in Mikado for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Bottom/A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Boston Lyric Opera, Alberich/Das Rheingold for Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Bartolo Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne, the title role in Will Gregory’s new opera Piccard in Space as well as concert performances of Gotterdammerung with Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia, Le Nozze di Figaro with Glyndebourne Festival Opera at the 2012 BBC Proms, and Delius’ A Village Romeo and Juliet with New London Orchestra and Beethoven 9 at the Royal Albert Hall.
Most recent engagements include Beckmesser/Die Meistersinger, Melitone/The Force of Destiny and The Pirates of Penzance, in new productions for ENO, and Bartolo/Le nozze di Figaro with Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival.
In 2014 he was made an Honorary Doctor of Music by Bristol University.
