Charlotte Knight
A "promising talent" (Opera Canada), soprano Charlotte Knight is establishing herself as an emerging artist on both opera and concert stages across Canada.
Recent engagements have included Hanna in the Canadian premiere of Künneke's Cousin from Nowhere (Der Vetter aus Dingsda) with Toronto Operetta Theatre, Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème with The Opera Project in Vancouver, Le Feu in Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges with the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy and as Marie in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment in an Opera Gala performance with Orchestra London.
Charlotte appears regularly with the St. Catharines Chamber Music Society and has recently performed Seven Romances on the Poems of Alexander Blok by Dmitri Shostakovich, To be sung upon the water by Dominick Argento, Four Blake Songs for Voice and Cello by the late Canadian composer Ronald Tremain, and the world premiere of Three Poems by Guillaume Apollinaire by Canadian composer Tyler Verluis.
The 2011/12 and 2010/11 seasons marked professional debuts with several Canadian ensembles, including Primavera Concerts at Lieschen in Bach's Coffee Cantata, the Etobicoke Philharmonic as Gilda in Verdi'sRigoletto, Toronto's Opera in Concert and the Classical Music Consort as Diana in Haydn's La Fedeltá Premiata, and Toronto Masque Theatre as Aréthuze in Charpentier's La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers.
Other roles include Morgana in Handel's Alcina, Despina in Mozart's Così fan tutte, Serpetta in Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera, Zeite Dame in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Barbarina in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Lucy in Menotti'sThe Telephone, Johanna in Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, and Phyllis in Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe.
Charlotte is an alumnus of the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy, Vancouver Summer Opera Studio, Halifax Summer Opera Workshop, Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar, Royal Conservatory of Music Summer Opera Workshop, Opera Atelier Summer Program, Conservatorium van Amsterdam Early Music Summer School, Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute and the University of Western Ontario where she completed her Bachelor of Music honours degree in voice.
