Frederic Wake-Walker
Frederic Wake-Walker is Artistic Director of Mahogany Opera Group, runs Mica Mica project Berlin and works regularly with children’s opera company Jubilee Opera.
His most recent engagements have included a new production of La finta giardiniera (Glyndebourne Festival); Gruber’s Gloria – A Pigtale (inc. Royal Opera, Bregenzer Festspiele, Buxton Festival); Hans Krasa’s Brundibar (UK tour with Mahogany and Jubilee Opera). Current Mahogany productions include Lost in Thought (Barbican, The Lowry, Hamburg Elbphilhamonie), Folie à Deux (Borealis Festival, Rotterdam Operadagen, Spitalfields Festival, Sacrum Profanum Krakow, Kulturhuset Stockholm) and The Rattler (Royal Festival Hall and UK tour).
Other productions include Britten’s Church Parables (Mahogany Opera at the Hermitage in St Petersburg, Aldeburgh Festival, Buxton Festival, City of London Festival), Handel’s Jephtha (Buxton Festival), Stravinsky’s Renard with Vladimir Jurowski (Konzerthaus Berlin), Julian Philips’ The Yellow Sofa (Glyndebourne on Tour) and Birtwistle’s Bow Down (The Opera Group).
He has also directed for Scottish Opera, La Monnaie Brussels, Opera North and for the Ópera de Oviedo. With Mahogany Opera he has produced and directed Russian Tales: Stravinsky’s The Fox and Walton’s The Bear, Britten’s Curlew River and Berio’s Laborintus II. With Jubilee Opera he has directed Noye’s Fludde, Let’s Make an Opera, and Hip Hip Horatio!
Future engagements include Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro alla Scala, Milan; his debut at the Opéra du Rhin, Strasbourg and the world premiere of The Mother with Mahogany Opera.
