Jennifer France
Nominated for The Times Breakthrough Award in Opera at the 2016 South Bank Sky Arts Awards, Winner of the Song Prize at the 2014 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and of a 2014 Leonard Ingrams Award from Garsington Opera, Jennifer France graduated from the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won many prizes, including the prestigious Patron’s Award that resulted in her solo recital debut at the Wigmore Hall, and was awarded the Principal’s Prize at graduation for exceptional all-round studentship in Summer 2013. Jennifer France has been awarded the Bruce Millar/ Gulliver Singing Prize in Glasgow and the Song Prize at the Hampshire Singing Competitin. She is currently studying with Lillian Watson.
At the Royal Northern College of Music, she sang Sandrina L’infedelta delusa and Adele Die Fledermaus and for Royal Academy Opera her roles included Héro Béatrice et Bénédict, Lisetta La vera costanza, Madame Herz Der Schauspieldierktor, Papagena Die Zauberflöte and Zerbinetta Ariadne auf Naxos. Further engagements have included Marzelline Fidelio for Garsington Opera at Wormsley and at the Winterthur Festival, First Niece Peter Grimes for Opera North, Le Feu / Le Rossignol L’enfant et les sortilèges with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Marjory Making Arrangements for Tête-à-Tête Opera and Esmeralda The Bartered Bride for British Youth Opera.
Jennifer France has an extensive concert repertoire, performing in many venues across the UK including the Royal Albert Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St John Smith’s Square, King’s Place, The Sage, Gateshead, and the Wigmore Hall. Her recordings include Debussy Songs – Vol. 3 with Malcolm Martineau on Hyperion CD.
Highlights of 2014 / 2015 included The Controller Flight for Opera Holland Park, Lauretta Gianni Schicchi and Esmeralda The Bartered Bride for Opera North, Bruckner Te Deum with the Oxford Philomusica, Messiah for the Really Big Chorus at the Royal Albert Hall, New Year Celebration Concerts with the Hallé and a Viennese New Year’s Eve Gala at the Barbican Hall, London.
During 2015 / 2016, she joins Scottish Opera as an Emerging Artist to sing Dalinda Ariodante and Despina Così fan tutte for Scottish Opera. Her current engagements further include Marzelline Fidelio with the Orchestre de Paris, Flavio Il Vologeso with Classical Opera, Susanna Le nozze di Figaro for Garsington Opera at Wormsley, Adele Die Fledermaus for Opera Holland Park, Zerbinetta Ariadne auf Naxos for the Nederlandse Reisopera, Elgar Une voix dans le desert with the Hallé, A Concert for the Eve of St Cecilia’s Day with the London Handel Orchestra, Mahler Symphony No. 8 with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the 2016 Three Choirs Festival, Carols by Candlelight on tour with Raymond Gubbay Ltd, Lieder and Other Arts Songs (Music by Fauré and Schumann) on tour with the Israel Camerata, Viennese Concerts with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Viennese Whirl with the Orchestra of Opera North.
