Laura León
Laura Martínez León is a natural Cuban soprano. She emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 2005 and is currently a Young Artist at Florida Grand Opera where she is covering Yvette in The Passenger and Norina in Don Pasquale.
Laura was last seen performing as a Young Artist at Florida Grand Opera’s numerous Outreach performances as Norina and as Cecilia Valdés. She was also seen as a Diva in the raising show Dueling Divas with Opera Fusion this past October of 2015 and as a soloist with the prestigious Enrique Chia in a concert offered by the Cuban Research Institute of Miami on the past December 7th a presented by Florida International University.
Previously she performed the role of Königin der Nacht in the 2014 Miami Summer Festival production of Die Zauberflöte directed by Michael Rossi, Washington’s National Opera orchestra director. The same year she was also seen portraying the role of Marguerita Fiorentino, the coloratura role in the Modern Opera Street Scene presented by Florida International University in the Spring of 2014. Her other credits include Musetta in La Boheme and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Nyack College in New York 2012.
During the Fall of 2013 she also performed as Charito in La Leyenda del Beso with Pro Arte-Grateli, the leading Zarzuela Company in Miami. That same year she was offered to sing a Homage Concert to Ernesto Lecuona, composed of 30 songs presented at Wertheim Art Center in commemoration of Lecuona’s centenary, hosted by the Cuban American Research Organization of Miami were she got to perform the composer’s less know repertoire with a few popular pieces as well.
Miss. Martínez had the great opportunity to perform in various Musical Theater shows as well, directed by Amy Ibberson with Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. Her last show she was seen as Lady Larken in Once Upon a Mattress, and previously as Lulu in Cabaret, Woman 1 in the four people musical theater show I love you, you are perfect, now change, and as Aggie in Oklahoma!. Her other credits include Yerma, as Yerma in the adapted theater play of Garcia Lorca for what she obtained 2nd place in the National Foreign Language competition in 2007. She has also established herself as the official National Anthem Performer for the Government Immigration Services or Miami-Dade County were she has had the privilege to sing for the Major of Miami and other government officials in special ceremonies in the Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami.
Laura Martínez León has an AA in Music Education from Miami Dade College, a BA in Voice Performance from Nyack College and a MM in Voice Performance from Florida International University. She currently resides in Miami, Fl with her family and poodle Romeo, were she studies with Prof. Dundas as a voice teacher.
