Scott Ballantine
Baritone, Scott Ballantine, maintains a busy performing schedule year-round in New England and across the United States. He has worked with companies such as Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, Boston Lyric Opera, Connecticut Lyric Opera, MassOpera, Opera Steamboat, Odyssey Opera and the Janiec Opera Company. A recent young artist with the Janiec Opera Company in Brevard, NC, Ballantine had his role debut as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, covered the role of Maximillian in Candide, and was a Street Singer Soloist in Bernstein’s Massunder the baton of Maestro Keith Lockhart. Following his performances in North Carolina, Ballantine joined the Southern Vermont Lyric Theatre as Baron in La Traviata.
In the 2018-19 season, Ballantine returns as a young artist with Boston Opera Collaborative to sing the title role in Don Giovanni and will portray the role of Father in The Scarlet Ibis. Following his engagements with BOC, Ballantine will make his company debut with the Natchez Festival of Music. There, he will sing the role of Miles Gloriosus in Sondheim’s _A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum_ and cover Marcello in La Bohème.
Previous operatic credits include Schaunard in La Bohème, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Hannah Before in As One, Valmont in The Dangerous Liaisons, Sid in Albert Herring, John Brooke in Little Women, and the title role in Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Feeling equally at home in musical theatre, Ballantine was a young artist with The Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theatre in 2017, singing Oliver Hix in _The Music Man_ and covering Captain Phoebus in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Additionally with the festival, Ballantine sang on numerous outreach concerts, cabarets and had the opportunity to Cover the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.
A native of Colorado, he left the mountain west in pursuit of his Master’s of Music in Voice Performance at The Boston Conservatory in 2015. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Voice Performance from Northern Arizona University in 2013. In addition to ongoing stage productions, Ballantine performs year-round in the Boston area: at restaurants and bars with Opera on Tap (bringing music to the masses), in professional holiday caroling gigs, as baritone section leader of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, and various youth outreach events.
