2018-19 marks the finale of Mr. Bruno’s affiliation as a Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist with the Washington National Opera. He will have his role debuts at the WNO as Dottore Grenvil in La Traviata followed by the French General in Silent Night. In 2019, he will create the role of Daddy in WNO’s world-premiere of _Taking Up Serpents_ by Kamala Sankaram and Jerre Dye as part of the American Opera Initiative. With the New Orleans Opera, he will star as Osmin in Abduction from the Seraglio. Back at WNO, he will cover the role of Méphistophélès in Faust, and then appears in the world-premiere of Liszt’s lost opera, Sardanapale, performing Beleso at the Library of Congress.  In the summer, he returns to Des Moines Metro Opera for Colline in La bohème and the First Apprentice in Wozzeck.

In 2017-18, Mr. Bruno performed Il frate in Don Carlo, Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville, the King in The Little Prince, the Sodbuster in the world premiere of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s Proving Up, and covered Melisso in Alcina. With the Washington Concert Opera, he debuted as Il Priore in Bellini’s La Straniera and appeared as Il viscount di Suze in Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan under the baton of Mo. Antony Walker. Mr. Bruno also debuted at The Glimmerglass Festival, performing Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville and The French General in Silent Night.

Previous seasons include his debut at Des Moines Metro Opera as the Mandarin in Turandot, and Bosun in _Billy Budd_ while covering the role of John Claggart. With the WNO, he also performed Antonio and Dr. Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro, Hortensius in Daughter of the Regiment, Warden Benton in Dead Man Walking, Lo zio Bonzo in Madama Butterfly, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, and appeared in the world-premieres of Mohammed Fairouz’s The Dictator’s Wife and Luna Pearl Woolf’s Better Gods. He also sang other commanding roles such as Colline in _La bohème_ as a Filene Young Artist with Wolf Trap Opera, Méphistophélès in _Faust_ and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Winter Opera St. Louis, Wotan in the Jonathan Dove reduction of _Die Walküre_ with Union Avenue Opera, Osmin in _Abduction from the Seraglio_ and Der Wanderer in Act One of Siegfried with Queen City Chamber Opera, Abimélech in _Samson et Dalila_ with the Atlanta Symphony, alongside Stephanie Blythe and Stuart Skelton, and the Commendatore in Don Giovanni, alongside Angela Meade as Donna Anna with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Bruno also maintains a strong presence in contemporary opera. He has been involved in three world premieres as part of the American Opera Initiative at Washington National Opera, where he also appeared as General Cobb and James Fowler in the revision of Philip Glass’ Appomattox. As well, he portrayed Louis XVI in _Ghosts of Versailles_ at Wolf Trap Opera, and covered Eric Owens as the Storyteller in John Adams’s _A Flowering Tree_ with Cincinnati Opera.

Prior to his summers at Wolf Trap, Mr. Bruno was an Apprentice Artist in Central City Opera’s Bonfils-Stanton Training Program, where he performed the role of Dr. Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro. As an Apprentice Artist at Opera Saratoga, he covered Sparafucile in _Rigoletto_ and performed Berthold in Offenbach’s Le 66. He performed Curio in _Giulio Cesare_ and Antonio in _Le Nozze di Figaro_ as a Resident Artist with Michigan Opera Theater, and made his professional debut in 2011 as a Young Artist with Cincinnati Opera. There he performed Count Ceprano in _Rigoletto_ and Second Armed Guard in Die Zauberflöte. He has also appeared with Toledo Opera, Opera Columbus, Annapolis Opera, and El Paso Opera, among others.

In demand as a concert artist, Mr. Bruno appeared in Schubert’s Mass in G and Mozart’s Requiem and _Coronation Mass_ at the Washington National Cathedral, Handel’s Messiah with the Memphis Symphony, the Bluffton Bach Festival, and at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, Haydn’s Creation with the Ann Arbor Cantata Singers, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Vermillion Symphonic Choir. He has also appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Toledo Symphony, the Dayton Bach Society, the Knox Music Series, St. Michaels in the Hills, and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Bruno is a recipient of prizes from the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions, the Opera Birmingham Competition, the Annapolis Opera Competition, Partners for the Arts, the Harold Haugh Light Opera Competition, and Singer’s Club of Cleveland. He is an alumnus of the Master of Music program at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Bowling Green State University.
