Mezzo-soprano Victoria Vargas has  performed such roles as Jade Boucher (Dead Man Walking), Giovanna (Rigoletto), Carmen (Carmen), Mrs. Lowe (The Manchurian Candidate), Adelaide (Arabella), Natacha Rambova (The Dream of Valentino), Third Lady (Magic Flute), Fenena (Nabucco), Smeton (Anna Bolena), Mrs. Deakins in the world premiere of Doubt, Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Nelly (Wuthering Heights), Flora (La Traviata), Anna (Mary Stuarda), and Tisbe (La Cenerentola) with Minnesota Opera. Victoria has performed with the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Chautauqua Opera, Sarasota Opera, and the Ash Lawn Highland Festival,  and Lyric Opera of the North.

Equally comfortable in concert work, Mrs. Vargas has sung with for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (NY), members of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra , Minnesota Orchestra, Mankato Symphony,Chautauqua Symphony, St. Cloud Orchestra,  the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, the Wayzata Symphony, La Jolla Symphony, Phoenix Symphony,Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the South Dakota Symphony.

Mrs. Vargas has placed in  the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions six times on the regional and district levels. She also placed second in the Schubert Club competition, and was a finalist in the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition.

Victoria’s upcoming engagements include a recital of Bernstein’s Songfest, the Baronessa di Champigny in The Italian Straw Hat with Minnesota Opera and another performance as the Mezzo soloist in the Verdi Requiem.

In addition to her performance career, Mrs. Vargas is on faculty for the MacPhail Center for Music and Carleton College.  She holds a Masters of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and aBachelors of Music Degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She has attended the Shenandoah University Contemporary Commericial Music Institute Summer intensive and was chosen to be a part of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Internship Program. She resides in Minneapolis with her wife Lindsay and cat Frankie.
